Last weekend was a premiere for Rinaldi Racing. The team entered a Ferrari 488 GT3 in the VLN for the first time.

At the eighth round, Georg Weiss, Oliver Kainz, and Jochen Krumbach shared the work behind the steering wheel behind the GT3.

On Friday, two tests were on the agenda of the Rinaldi Racing team. The test in the morning only covered the Grand Prix circuit of the Nürburgring before they set off for the Nordschleife in the afternoon. This gave the three drivers the opportunity to get used to the car. Lap after lap, the drivers gained more confidence in the car and improved their lap times. They also used the tests to work on the set-up of the Ferrari 488 GT3. In the end, the team was in a very good position for qualifying and the race on Saturday.

Qualifying got underway on Saturday morning in the sunshine. The three drivers completed their laps and in the end, they finished in a very good tenth place, ten seconds behind the leaders.

At 12.00 noon, the 156-strong field started the four-hour race. Jochen Krumbach took over the start and was able to make up two places. With very good lap times Krumbach was able to keep his position and handed over the GT3 to Oliver Kainz. Without any incidents on the track and steady lap times, Kainz was able to defend his position. After his stint, Georg Weiss got behind the wheel of the Ferrari 488 and after 27 laps the Rinaldi Racing team could be happy about a very good ninth place overall at the eighth VLN race.

“The weekend was a highlight for the team. We used the Ferrari 488 in the VLN for the first time. We are very happy with the result. The drivers also did a very good job. They drove the Ferrari GT3 for the first time but were able to get used to the car very quickly due to their experience and very good track knowledge. The team was very happy to work with the drivers and in the end, we got a good result,” said team boss Michele Rinaldi.
